Arthur, Darafshi Lead Mount Greylock to Nordic Wins

BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Evan Arthur finished first overall Saturday to lead the Mount Greylock boys cross country ski team to victory at Mohawk Trail Regional High School in the final Berkshire County Nordic League race of the season.

 

Arthur finished in 14 minutes, 34 seconds to edge Amherst's Willy Wright for the individual title.

 

In the girls race, Mount Greylock's Niku Darafshi and Brandi Gill finished 1-2 to lead the Mounties to victory.

 

Arthur was joined in the top six by teammates Ric Donati, Jakin Miller and Jacob Adams in fourth through sixth, respectively as the Mounties finished with 16 points to beat second-place Northfield Mount Hermon (43).

 

Lenox's boys finished third with 60 points behind a ninth-place showing from Miles Marshall (15:24).

 

Mount Greylock's girls finished with 18 points after putting five finishers in the top 10.

 

Darafshi (16:24) and Gill (16:28) were followed by teammates Margo Smith, Emma Polumbo and Helen Greenfield in seventh, eighth and ninth.

 

Mohawk's girls finished second with 41 points. Lenox was fourth behind a fifth-place performance by Alice Huth (16:36).

 

The state championships are Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Notchview Reservation.
