PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Rob Pecor doubled in a run to start a four-run second inning rally that propelled the McCann Tech baseball team to a 4-2 win over Smith Academy at Wahconah Park Thursday in the Western Massachusetts Division 4 semi-finals.

The Hornets win ensures that Berkshire County will have at least one team moving on to the state baseball tournament next week. McCann will face Lenox at 4:30 Saturday afternoon at the University of Massachusetts for the sectional title.

On Saturday morning, Wahconah will battle Frontier for the Western Mass Division 3 crown and the right to advance to the state semi-finals.

On Thursday, fifth-seeded McCann (18-5) fell behind, 1-0, after one inning.

But the Hornets rallied for all the offense they needed in the second, a frame that started when Charlie Bohl reached on an error and which included a Bradley Tatro single.

Tatro and Pecor had half of McCann’s hits between them. Connor Guyette and Bohl had the other two singles.

Robert Matte III was masterful in this pitchers’ duel, allowing just four hits over six innings of work. Austin Miller came on to finish things up in the seventh.
