LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Umpires Association recently recognized its 2016 Most Valuable Players and Sportsmanship Award winners.

In the Northern Division, Wahconah’s Matt Schneider was named the MVP after hitting .405 and driving in 28 runs to help his team reach the state Division 3 semi-finals.

The Northern Division Sportsmanship Award went outside the division to Ryan Meehan of McCann Tech, who plays outside the Berkshire County League. Meehan helped the Hornets win the Tri-County League title, go to the State Voc tournament and reach the championship game of the Western Massachusetts Division 4 tournament.

Mount Greylock’s Adam Hall won the Sportsmanship Award in the Southern Division. Hall, a senior, was one of a few returnees from the Mounties’ senior-laden 2015 state finalist squad. He helped Mount Greylock battle to a 10-10 regular season record and a trip to this year’s Western Mass tourney.

The Southern Division MVP is Hoosac Valley’s Matt Koperniak. He compiled a .512 average with three home runs for the Hurricanes, who reached the Western Mass Division 3 semi-finals.

The honorees each received a $500 scholarship from the BCUA, which generates funds from its annual golf tournament at Skyline Country Club.
