Taconic Baseball Breaks Away from Hoosac with Fifth-Inning Rally

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Taconic baseball team Thursday scored eight runs in the top of the fifth to break open a tight ballgame and went on to an 18-2 win over Hoosac Valley.
 
The Hurricanes led, 2-1, after three innings, but Taconic (3-0) got a two-run double from Anton Lazits in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead and never looked back.
 
Lazits ended the day 3-for-4 with five RBIs and one of seven Taconic doubles.
 
Brendan Stannard also doubled and went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
 
Lazits threw 2-⅓ innings of hitless relief of starter Christian Womble, who got the win after striking out nine, walking four and allowing no earned runs.
 
John Krol and Cole Desroches accounted for the two Hoosac Valley hits. Krol (1-for-3) also drove in a run.
 
Hoosac Valley (1-2) goes to Pittsfield on Tuesday.
 
Taconic hosts Drury on Wednesday.
