Auburn Ends Wahconah's Run in State Semis

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Brian Sarkisian and Steven Saucier each went 2-for-3 to lead the Auburn baseball team to a 13-6 win over Wahconah on Tuesday in the state Division 3 semi-finals at Westfield State University.
 
Josh Tower and Collin Hines each tripled for the Rockets (20-4), who came into the game as the Central Massachusetts champions for the sixth time in 10 years.
 
Western Mass champion Wahconah (17-7) rallied from an early 7-1 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Auburn tacked on six in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
 
Ty Cowdrey, Joe Wornick, Ethan Forfa and Patrick Butler each went 2-for-4 for Wahconah. Butler drove in a pair of runs.
 
Wahconah used three relievers -- Butler, Forfa and Cowdrey -- after starter Will Genaway departed in the fourth inning after allowing seven runs, just three earned.
 
Auburn moves on to Saturday’s Division 3 state title game against Dover-Sherborn, a 4-3 winner over Austn Prep on Tuesday.
