Goretti Game-Winner Lifts Monument Baseball in Extra Innings

SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- Mike Goretti hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Graham Herrick in the top of the ninth as the Monument Mountain baseball team earned a 7-5 win over Southwick-Tolland on Wednesday.
 
Herrick started the game-winning rally with a leadoff single and moved up on Jared Henry’s single. Kade Grober then reached on a bunt to load the bases for Goretti.
 
After Southwick’s pitcher got the next man swinging, Sam Cormier singled to right to drive in Henry.
 
Tyler Wade gave up a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth but got the final out on a popup to the mound.
 
Wade got the win with 3-⅓ innings of two-hit, shutout relief. He struck out three and walked one after coming on for Henry with two out in the sixth.
 
Wade also doubled in a 2-for-5 day at the plate. Goretti went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including the game-winner, and Grober was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
 
Monument Mountain tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh, when Goretti singled to score Henry.
 
Monument Mountain (8-2) goes to Hoosac Valley on Friday.
