Hornets Hurt by Rough Fourth Inning

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A bad defensive lapse came at an even worse time for the McCann Tech baseball team, which made three errors in a seven-run fourth inning that allowed Pathfinder to walk away from Joe Wolfe Field with an 11-1 road victory on Monday. The loss drops the Hornets to 8-10 this season, meaning Pat Ryan's club needs to win its final two remaining games if it wants to qualify for the Division 3 Western Mass. tournament.

McCann had a tough challenge on Monday with Greg Poblieglo pitching well from the mound for the Pioneers. Poblieglo allowed just one run while scattering four hits to pick up the win, striking out five and allowing only one walk. His lone blemish came in the bottom of the fourth, when senior Zach Tatro drove in a run for the Hornets with a ground ball.

Junior TJ Therrien took the loss for the Hornets, allowing eight runs and three walks in just under four innings of work. Classmate Kyle Crosier finished up the game for the hosts, surrendering three runs with one strikeout and three walks in the final three and one-third frames.

Catcher Adam Kozik led the Pathfinder offense, collecting four hits and two RBIs, while teammate Trystan Davis chipped in with a pair of hits and three runs batted in.

McCann will try to keep its season alive by winning its final two games this week. The first step comes on Thursday, when the Hornets host Gateway at 4 p.m.
