Recap for the game: Mount Greylock vs Wahconah on Apr 11
MG Bats, Coleman Clinch Win over Wahconah
08:25PM / Thursday, April 12, 2012
DALTON, Mass — The sweet-swinging bats of the Mount Greylock baseball team built a big lead against Wahconah on Wednesday. Junior pitcher Ben Coleman then preserved it.
Coleman came on with one out left in the bottom of third inning and helped the Mounties get out of a royal jam. Up by 10 runs heading into the frame, Greylock starter Robbie Buffis ran into trouble by giving up six runs, three of which were earned, and letting the Warriors back into the game. Coleman got the final out of the inning, however, and allowed just one hit the rest of the way to clinch an 18-6 road win for the Mounties.
Coleman pitched over four scoreless innings, striking out four and walking none to earn his first victory of the year. While the Greylock pitching staff had just one bad inning on the day, the Mounties' offense brought the wood all game long, scoring at least one run in all but one inning of play. A six-run second inning gave Steve Messina's club a 9-0 lead and after Wahconah had cut the deficit to 10-6, Greylock (2-1) responded by scoring eight runs combined over the final three frames.
Junior Andrew Leitch led the Greylock offense by going 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and four runs batted in. Sophomore catcher Nick DiSanti reached based all four times he came to bat, finishing with three RBI, while junior Sean Houston hit a solo home run in the third.
Joe Dimassimo led the Warriors (1-1) with two hits and two RBI. Anthony Delmolino took the loss for Wahconah, leaving the game midway through the second inning after allowing nine earned runs.
The Mounties next host St. Joe's at 4 p.m. on Friday.
