Greylock Swarms Lenox Right From the Start

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock baseball team is hard enough to handle on a good day. When an opposing pitcher has control problems, they can be in for a really long afternoon.

Lenox starter Trevor Hathaway found that out the hard way in a 21-4 loss in a game shortened to just five innings due to the mercy rule on Monday. Hathaway struggled with control issues, allowing six walks and eight hits in the first inning alone as the Mounties scored 16 runs right out of the gate. Greylock (13-4) batted around twice in the first inning and sent 15 batters to the plate before Hathaway got his first out of the game. Overall, the Mounties collected 17 hits and seven walks on the day, helping streaking Greylock earn its sixth straight win.

Eleven different hitters pounded out hits for the Mounties, while freshman starter Ian Brink only needed to toss two innings to earn his second win of the year. Brink struck out three and walked two before letting Frank Rickus (two innings pitched) and Ben Coleman (one inning) close out the game.

Brink, Sean Houston and Andrew Leitch paced Greylock's offense, driving in three runs apiece. The Mounties return to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. road game against Taconic.
