Greylock has Rough Start against Mt. Anthony
12:11PM / Saturday, April 07, 2012
BENNINGTON, VT — The Mount Greylock baseball team might just want to hit the reset button on the 2012 season.
The Mounties got off to a tough start against Mount Anthony on Thursday, allowing 10 walks and committing four errors in a 12-2 loss on the road. Patriots' starter Tyler Kunzmann also held Greylock's lineup in check, allowing two earned runs on three hits to earn the complete-game victory. Kunzmann walked just one batter and stuck out 12 Mounties to earn the win.
Greylock fell behind early when Mount Anthony put up four runs in the first inning off of senior starter Avery Cunningham. Zach Bahan hit a two-run double in the first for the Patriots, who scored another run in the bottom of the third inning to open a 5-1 lead. Junior Andrew Leitch helped the Mounties get a run back in the top of the fourth when he hit a double and scored two batters later.
Junior hurler Ben Coleman was effective in relief of Cunningham, pitching two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. The frame started off with an error that allowed one runner to reach base. Two straight walks loaded the bases before Coleman rallied back with a fielder's choice to earn one out at home plate. Russell Krebs then put the game away for Mount Anthony, however, blasting a grand slam over the left-field fence to give the hosts an insurmountable 9-2 lead.
Both Leitch and senior Mike Munzer reached base three times for Greylock, which also received doubles from Nick DiSanti and Robbie Buffis. The Mounties return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against Rutland.
