Munson Makes Noise In Win Over Everett

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — It wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but the Mount Greylock baseball team did what it had to do on Wednesday to assure the Mounties their fourth straight win.

Greylock pounded out 12 hits in all and took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away for a 10-6 home win over Mount Everett. Senior outfielder Mike Munson led the Mounties' offense, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Munzer came through with a two-run single in the fourth, sparking a five-run frame that gave the hosts a 9-4 lead.

Senior Billy Pulasky also had a solid day at the plate for Greylock (11-4), which drove Eagles' starter Eli Cook from the game after just three innings. Pulasky went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI, two walks and three runs scored, while Eric Leitch and Josh Fortier chipped in with two hits and one RBI each.

Had it not been for the five runs the Mounties put on the board against Everett reliever Erik Derwitsch in the fourth, the visitors would have had a great chance to win the game. The Eagles scored six runs off of Greylock sophomore Robby Buffis, who struck out seven and walked four in just over six innings of work. Everett started to get things going against Buffis by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but junior Ben Coleman came on to record the final two outs to earn the save.

Buffis still did enough to earn the win, pitching his way around nine hits to improve his record to 2-1 this year. He had no answer for Garrett Torrico, however, who cleaned house for the Eagles' offense with three hits and five RBIs.

The Mounties next host Hoosac Valley in a key South Division showdown at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
