WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock baseball team defeated Hoosac Valley, 6-2, Wednesday in an all around effort from Ian Brink's pitching to various players connecting the bat and ball to get on base.

It started in the bottom of the second inning for the Mounties as they drove in their first two runs to take the lead from Hoosac 2-1. Between the second inning and fifth Mount Greylock totaled five hits, but the score remained at 2-1 until the fifth inning.

After a 1-2-3 inning from Brink in the top of the fifth, Greylock came out and got seven hits; four of which turned into runs from Eric Hirsh, Brink, Brodie Altiere, and Dan Flynn extending the lead to 6-1.

"We struggled a little bit early," Greylock coach Steve Messina said. "We finally came around in the fifth inning, we hit the ball hard, which I was very happy to see."

Brink pitched his final inning in the top of the sixth before Josh Jezouit closed it out in the seventh. The Mounties had another 1-2-3 inning, a strikeout coming from Brink and the other two outs came from infield plays.

Brink threw a total of seven strikeouts for the afternoon.

"He pitched a great game today," Messina said. "He was obviously right around the plate, he was throwing strikes, and he had good velocity."

"They have a couple of good hitters over there, I think one of the best in the league with Koperniak and he was able to handle him pretty good," Messina said. "So it was a great job by Ian, we knew we'd get a good job out of him he always pitches well."

Hoosac was hopeful in the top of the seventh and it started with leadoff hitter Matt Koperniak. He hit triple deep to left field and was brought in by senior Andrew Milesi.

Koperniak made the score 6-2 with one out, but Jezouit got a strikeout and a ground ball to finish the game.

"We're happy with the way the game went today, we got the game in, so it turned out to be a pretty good day," Messina said.

Greylock hosts Monument Mountain Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Hoosac Valley travels to Mount Everett Thursday afternoon for a 4 p.m. start.
