NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Drury's Schuyler Robinson did a good job keeping the Hoosac Valley Hurricanes off the bases Wednesday evening in an under the lights meeting for the crosstown rivals at Joe Wolfe Field.

 

The Blue Devils took home a 7-0 win over Hoosac, and Robinson finished the game with 10 strikeouts, pitching all seven innings and allowing eight players to get on base.

 

The effort was all around for Drury; offensively it got things going right in this first inning.

 

A bunt from Robinson allowed two runners to score for Drury on an overthrow from Hoosac, it was then followed by RBI singles from both Jake Tatro and Kirby Bryce to go ahead 4-0.

 

"Schuyler was a little up and down, but he battled," Drury coach Pat Boulger said. "He got himself out of some very tough situations, he pitched the game he knows how to pitch and I give him a lot of credit as a senior leader and captain; that's what we ask him to do and that's what he does."

 

The Devils added another run in the second from Logan Rumbolt and then Hoosac went 1-2-3 in the third and fourth innings.

 

Keagan McGrath pitched five innings for Hoosac, striking out four, Jake Sniezek took over on the mound midway through the fifth, striking out one.

 

"Our hitting approach tonight was fair," Boulger said. "First we came out and had a good approach and then I think we got greedy, we tried to swing a little bit too much, the third, fourth, and fifth inning I feel our approach went away a little bit, we were swinging too early in the count."

 

Drury still pulled out two more runs, one coming in and fifth and a final in the sixth.

 

They came out in the top of the seventh and finished the game with a 1-2-3 inning, leaving the score at 7-0.

 

"Anytime you have Drury-Hoosac in any sport it's a rivalry, it brings the intensity level up," Boulger said. "This is a huge rebound game for us after getting beat by Wahconah the other day and it puts us 9-3 and one win away from making the tournament."

 

Drury looks to take on Pittsfield tomorrow afternoon, still working towards their goal of the Western Mass Tournament.
