DALTON, Mass. -- The Wahconah baseball team defeated McCann Tech, 5-4, on Saturday in 15 innings in the consolation game of the Wachonah Tournament.

The score was tied at four after seven innings.

Wahconah took the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth after Ryan Washburn hit one out of the park, but McCann came back out in the top of the fifth and tied it with a run from Charles Bohl.

McCann pitcher Nate Biron pitched 10 innings for the Hornets, striking out two; he was replaced by Sean Davis, who struck out four.

Wahconah went through four pitchers in the 15 innings. Austin Cancilla started and threw five innings striking out four, Marco Anastastio took over in the fifth throwing three strikeouts, Andrew Kowalczyk threw two innings striking out two, and Will Genaway closed for Wahconah with three.

"Pitching is a strength of ours, which is helpful," Wahconah coach Jared Shannon said. "We have a lot of guys who can throw."

In the bottom of the 15th inning with one man on base, Wahconah's Matt Schneider hit one deep to center field that was inches from going over the fence, bringing in base runner Andrew Beaudoin to take the 5-4 victory.

"That was a huge hit," Shannon said. "Matt's been our best hitter all year and we actually thought that was out, it would have been his second home run in two days."

Earlier in the day, Wahconah lost to Hoosac Valley, 5-1, and Monument Mountain beat McCann, 4-1, in the tournament's first round.
