UPTON, Mass. -- The second-seeded Nipmuc boys lacrosse team Thursday defeated Wahconah, 16-2, in the quarter-finals of the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.

Nipmuc (15-4), which had a bye in the first round, advances to play No. 6 Hoosac Valley in the next week's semi-finals.

"Nipmuc is a very good team," Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. "The best team we’ve seen all season. There’s no way to prepare for a team like that without playing teams like them. But our guys competed the entire game with class."

Luca Burgess and Chris Acevedo each scored a goal, and Matt Mathers had an assist for Wahconah.

Wahconah finishes its season with a record of 15-5.

"We’re graduating a great senior class that we’re sad to see go," Sondrini said. "We have a strong group of 13 juniors returning next year and we’ll build on for next season."
