WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Alie Mendel scored four goals and set up five more Friday to lead the Hoosac Valley girls lacrosse team to a 16-2 win over St. Mary’s.

Brooke DeGennaro scored five goals, and Autumn McAdoo had a hat trick for the Hurricanes.

“We started off the game winning draws and scoring quickly,” Hoosac coach Molly Meczywor said. “We moved the ball well up the field in transition, led by Alie Mendel, Jelly Tanguay, Skylar Case and Brooke DiGennaro.

“And it was nice to see some of our younger players contribute. It was a nice first win.”

Faith Hall and Cairagan Greene combined to make five saves in the Hoosac goal.

The Hurricanes (1-1) are off for the school vacation week before facing Hoosick Falls, N.Y., on April 23.
