DALTON, Mass. -- Alie Mendel scored twice, and five different players put the ball in the net for Hoosac Valley’s girls lacrosse team in a 6-5 win over Wahconah on Wednesday night.

“Tonight both teams played their hearts out,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “Hoosac did a great job of transitioning the ball. We struggled with forcing the ball and not being as patient as we should which led to low percentage shots. It is exciting to see the level of lacrosse in the county continue to elevate and grow.

“When we play them again, I'm sure it will be another great game.”

Bri Lancia, Claudia Bresett, Brooke DiGennaro and Angelica Tanguay each had a goal for the Hurricanes, who got eight saves from Abi Disbrow.

Sydney Smith stopped 10 shots for Wahconah.

Jillian Cote scored twice, and Hannah Ronayne, Bri Kasala and Olivia Hines each scored a goal.

Wahconah (8-6) goes to East Longmeadow on Saturday.

Hoosac Valley (10-2) goes to Lee on Thursday.

Wahconah and Hoosac Valley will meet again on Monday in Cheshire.
