NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Westfield girls lacrosse team outscored Hoosac Valley, 5-3, in the second half to earn a 12-8 win on Monday at MCLA, handing the Hurricanes their first loss of the season.

Jordan Kowalski socred six goals to lead the Bombers.

"This game was a tale of two halves - in the first half we moved the ball well in transition, won 90 percent of draws and defended cutters," Hoosac Valley coach Molly Meczywor said. "We came out and scored two quick goals and possessed for the majority. Faith Hall was dominant on the circle. The second half, we struggled in transition and found ourselves in trouble defensively. Emily Godfrey made some terrific saves, though"

Godfrey finished with 14 stops.

"Westfield is a good team - quick with stick and ball movement," Meczywor said. "Great team to play to help prepare us for post season. Proud of the girls for stepping up to this challenge and being willing to learn and grow from this."

Brooke DiGennaro and Claudia Bresett each scored four goals, and Lauren Davis had two assists for Hoosac Valley.

The Hurricanes (13-1) are scheduled to host Mount Greylock on Tuesday.
