Howland, Blue Devils Top Hoosac Valley for First Win

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- McKenna Pevey went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Maya Howland struck out seven in a complete-game effort as the Drury softball team defeated Hoosac Valley, 5-2, on Saturday.
 
For the Hurricanes, it was a double loss as star pitcher Kali Puppolo left with an apparent ankle injury suffered while attempting to steal third base in the third inning.
 
Hoosac Valley was up, 2-0, at the time. Drury's offense caught fire once Puppolo left the circle, scoring in each of the remaining four innings.
 
Drury took the lead for good in the fifth.
 
Jackie Moulton was hit by a pitch and ended up scoring when Abby Lear reachd on a bunt up the first base line. McKenna Pevey singled up the middle to give Drury a 3-2 lead.
 
Lear and Anna Dix each went 2-for-3 for Drury.
 
Puppolo struck out six through three innings.
 
Hoosac Valley (1-1) hosts Wahconah on Tuesday.
 
Drury (1-2) hosts Mount Everett for a double-header on Thursday.
