McGuire's Grand Slam Lifts Drury over Hoosac Valley

ADAMS, Mass. -- McKenzie McGuire’s grand slam in the top of the fifth inning erased a two-run deficit and send the Drury softball team on to a 14-12 win over Hoosac Valley on Saturday at Russell Field.
 
McGuire finished 2-for-5 at the plate and scored three times.
 
Drury rebounded after the Hurricanes scored six in the bottom of the third to grab a 12-8 lead, getting two back in the fourth and setting the stage for McGuire’s blast.
 
After combining for 26 runs in the first 4-½ innings, the teams settled down into a pitchers’ duel, and Katie Booth, who came on in relief in the fourth, shut down Hoosac Valley to earn the win
 
Booth finished with three strikeouts in four innings.
 
Abby Lear went 4-for-5 at the plate, and Cassandra Crosier was 3-for-5 with a triple. Anna Dix was 2-for-4 in the win.
 
Hoosac Valley’s offense was led by Katie Braman, who went 3-for-5. Maddie Puppolo tripled for the ‘Canes (2-1), who host Monument Mountain on Tuesday.
 
Drury (1-2) hosts Taconic on Tuesday.
