WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mount Greylock freshman Lily Lesieur struck out nine, scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run Tuesday as the Mounties picked up their fifth straight win, a 6-2 victory over Mount Everett.

Jordyn Codding went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and drove in four runs to lead Mount Greylock’s offense.

But Lesieur did not need much offensive support in picking up her sixth win of the season.

“She's done a great job on the mound,” Wahconah coach June Blake said. “She gets ahead of batters really well, and then she dictates the at-bats.

“She had nine strikeouts today, so a solid day for her today on the mound.”

Mount Everett coach Kurt DeGrenier, who has had his share of quality pitchers in Sheffield, was impressed with the youngster.

“I can’t see as well as what the batters are seeing, but she spotting her ball, she’s controlling the at-bats, so she did well,” he said of Lesieur.

She started out strong, striking out five of the first batters she faced and retiring seven of the first nine before Devan Galli doubled with two out in the top of the third. Jaclyn Derwitsch followed with a single down the line in right to bring Galli home and cut into a 4-0 Mount Greylock lead.

Galli doubled twice, and Gwendolyn Carpenter had a double among the six Eagles hits. Unfortunately for Mount Everett, which has three runs in its last two games, it was not able to string hits together more than once.

“Couldn't tie two or three hits together,” DeGrenier said. “We've just got to find ourselves. We were hitting the ball pretty well at the beginning of the year, and now I think we're tailing off a little bit. We've just got to get back in the cage and get our confidence up and start over.”

Mount Greylock, meanwhile, rallied for runs in three different innings.

In the first, Codding singled up the middle to drive home Elena Cerveira, who had reached on a walk and moved up on a wild pitch.

In the second, the Mounties loaded the bases with two out for Codding, and she delivered with a base hit down the first base line. A bobble in the outfield allowed Kayla Cerveira to race home all the way from first and make it a 4-0 game.

In the fourth, Elena Cerveira hit a two-out triple, and, after Kayla Cerveira reached on a walk, Codding’s sac fly brought home a run. Kayla Cerveira ended up scoring from second on Lesieur’s single to center.

“We got some baserunners on, and we got the big hits when we needed them,” Blake said.

“Defensively, I'd like to see us be a little sharper,” she added, alluding to the error that led to Mount Everett’s sixth-inning run. “But we're fairly young. I've got kids playing new positions. But we're getting better each day.”

Mount Greylock (6-1) goes to Hoosac Valley on Thursday.

Mount Everett (4-5) is at Pittsfield on Thursday.
