WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Lily Lesieur struck out seven in a five-inning no-hitter Thursday as the Mount Gryelock softball team defeated Lenox, 16-0.

The Greylock bats were hot early and only got hotter. Jordyn Codding and Brodi Rosier both scored in the first inning thanks to some smart baserunning and a Lenox fielding error. The second inning seemed a little more promising for Lenox, as pitcher Juliana Johansen took a leadoff walk, but the Greylock defense proved too strong for the young Millionaire team as the following batters went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts. That was the theme for the rest of the contest, as Lesieur’s pitching and Greylock’s fielding remained unflappable.

Mount Greylock’s bats heated up even more in the third as they scored eight runs on a whopping nine hits. Both Phelps and senior outfielder Marley Buffis hit beautiful ground-rule doubles to bring in one runner each.

The big lead gave Mount Greylock coach June Blake the opportunity to play less experienced players in the third and fourth, including eighth-grader Emma Newberry, who got on base in the bottom of the fourth.

“I like how aggressive they were at the plate,” Blake said. “They hit the ball very well today.”

She also noted Lesieur’s dominant pitching and was very happy with how the team had come together.

“The girls have been working on their bats," she said. "Lily has been working on the mound, and was really successful with several different pitches.”

Lesieur agreed that it was “great to see the whole team getting hits.”

Mount Greylock (4-3) goes to Mount Everett on Tuesday.

Lenox (0-4) hosts Commerce on Monday.
