ADAMS, Mass. -- The Monument Mountain softball team defeated Hoosac 7-3 Thursday afternoon at Russell Field.

The Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead after the fourth inning, but Monument went ahead, 4-2,T in a sixth inning that included a two-run triple from Alexa Troiano.

Hoosac made it 4-3 in the bottom of the inning.

"Our hitting is something we've been working on -- hand quickness," Monument coach Fred Shaw said. "We had to make a big adjustment today, we played Commerce yesterday and their pitcher doesn't pitch very fast."

Shaw's team adjusted well to Hoosac pitcher Kali Puppolo's pitching; the Spartans put three more runs on the board in the seventh inning where the final score remained, 7-3.

Although the Monument team was hitting well, Puppolo recorded nine strikeouts and walked only two for the afternoon.

Hoosac's final run of the game, which came in the bottom of the sixth came off an RBI triple from Sienna Witherall.

Monument pitcher Aspen Sawyer struck out five and walked three.

"Aspen threw two strong innings yesterday against Commerce," Shaw said. "I rested her knowing this game was going to happen today, so I could get her ready for this game."

Monument had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh to finish the game.

The Spartans (2-4) host Wahconah on Tuesday. Hoosac (3-4) travels to Lee on Friday.
