Ramsdell Sparks Devils to Win over Wildcats

NORTH ADAMS, Mass — There is plenty to feel good about if your a member of the Drury softball team right now.
The Blue Devils capped off their first week of the season with their second consecutive double-digit win over a South Division team on Wednesday. After downing Lenox 14-1 on Monday, Drury defeated Lee 13-0 in a game shortened to five innings.
Junior center fielder Amanda Ramsdell sparked the Blue Devils' offense, going 3 for 3 with two singles and three RBI. She also had three stolen bases and scored a run for Drury, which opened a quick 4-0 lead after one inning of play. Mary Ann Maroni's squad added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning before salting the game away with five runs combined over the next two frames.
Junior third baseman Katie Hancock was also a threat with the bat, collecting two doubles and five runs batted in. Sophomore pitcher Cat Record helped her cause in the circle by going 2 for 2 with two RBI. The young hurler also struck out six batters while only allowing three hits on her way to earning her first shutout of the year. After walking five Lenox batters on Monday, Record did not allow one single base on balls in the win against the Wildcats.
In addition to the solid pitching and hitting she received on Wednesday, Maroni also said she was pleased with her club's defense, particularly the play of sophomore Alison Cellana.
"Alison had her first varsity start in right field and had a day," Maroni said. "She successfully handled long fly balls over her head, short fly balls and line drives. In the fourth inning, she snagged a hard-hit line drive and was able to double the girl off of first base."
The Devils next host North Division rival Wahconah at 4 p.m. on Monday.
