McCann's Slump Continues Against Palmer

PALMER, Mass. — The McCann Tech softball team continued its hitting slump on Thursday, collecting just two hits in a 14-1 road loss to Palmer in a game shortened to just five innings due to the mercy rule.

After scoring eight runs in a loss to Palmer early last week, the Hornets (1-7) have managed one run a game in their last three outings. The pitching tandem of Nicole Handzel and Summer Cavanaugh held McCann to just two hits and two walks while combining for five strikeouts on Wednesday. Handzel picked up the victory, striking out four and walking two in three innings of work.

The Panthers took advantage of seven Hornets' errors to score 11 runs over the first three innings. Nicole Prosper led the way for Palmer with three hits and three RBIs, while teammate Alyssa Jaskak collected three hits and drove in two runs.

Senior Erika Ziemba was charged with the loss for McCann, allowing eight earned runs in four innings of work. The Hornets next host Ware at 4 p.m. on Friday.
