WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Julia Murphy pitched a complete game one-hitter with six strikeouts to lead the Pittsfield High School softball team to a 3-0 win over West Springfield on Thursday in the quarter-finals of the MIAA Western Massachusetts Division 1 Tournament.

 

Fifth-seeded PHS (18-2) advances to Monday's sectional semi-final at the University of Massachusetts Amherst against the winner of Friday's game between No. 1 Longmeadow and No. 9 Central.

 

On Thursday, Pittsfield got a 2-for-3 performance from Lauren Carnevale, who also drove in a run and scored twice. Bella Aiken singled and scored a run, and Britt Perkett went 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

Emily Koldys and Hayley Tobin each drove in a run for the Generals.

 

For West Springfield (14-7), pitcher Danielle Metivier struck out four while allowing nine hits.
