This week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Commnity Bank Athletes of the Week helped lead their teams in big games that were closer than the final score indicates.

The Drury girls Saturday played the only intra-county game at the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Hoosac Valley High School.

And although the Blue Devils came away with a 15-point win over Monument Mountain, it was a one-point game early in the third quarter.

That is when Tess Zoito hit a 3-pointer following a turnover forced by Drury's full-court press.

That triple gave the Blue Devils a 33-29 lead that quickly balooned to 39-31; she later added a free throw in a 12-2 Drury run that changed the complexion of the game.

Zoito ended up with 17 points in the win, Drury's fourth in a row and third of the week.

Drury has another county contest on Monday when it goes to Lee to face another team riding the momentum of a Coaches vs. Cancer win.

The Taconic boys have more momentum than anyone in the county, having won 10 games in a row after Friday's victory at Wahconah.

The final score there was a six-point margin, but most of that came from Taconic's 17-6 first quarter. After that, Wahconah played nearly evenly with the Berkshire County North Division leaders, who needed every bit of the game-high 17 points they got from Quentin Gittens.

"I thought Quentin did a great job penetrating," Taconic coach Bill Heaphy said. "He's just so active. We needed to get some offensive activity on the glass, and we did."

Taconic also needed a couple of tests after a string of mostly lop-sided outcomes.

"This one we knew was going to be tough," Heaphy said. "Wahconah's a good team. They've got good players and are well coached.

"It's actually good for us to be in this situation."
