FRAMINGHAM, Mass — A poor fourth quarter cost the McCann Tech boys' basketball team, which eventually ran out of gas in a 52-42 loss to Keefe Tech in the semifinals of the state vocational tournament on Thursday.

The Hornets (11-10) hung tough throughout the game, overcoming a 13-8 deficit after one quarter to pull within three points heading into the fourth. McCann's defense wore out in the fourth, however, allowing the Broncos to outscore the visitors 17-10 in the final quarter of the game.

John Lancel hit a trio of 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 17 points for Keefe. Senior forward Mike Chappell also had 17 points for the Hornets, while classmate Zach Giron added 10 points from the center position.

McCann has at least one game remaining in the 2011-12 season. The Hornets, who earned the No. 16 and final seed in the Division 3 Western Mass. tournament, will take on top-seeded Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
