Hurricanes Have a Hard Time with Wildcats

LEE, Mass — Even as the losses piled up this season, the Hoosac Valley boys' basketball team could always hang its hat on being a young, inexperienced squad able to give any team a competitive game on any given night.

That wasn't the case for the Hurricanes on Monday night, however, as Bill Robinson's team fell behind early and never got its footing in a 65-33 road loss to Lee. The Wildcats improved to 9-4 this season by putting up 18 points each in the first two quarters. Hoosac, meanwhile, never managed to score more than 10 points in a single frame, causing the visitors to drop their seventh straight game to fall to 1-13 on the year.

"Lee jumped out early and put the foot on the gas," Robinson said. "We were outplayed, outhustled, out everythinged. It was another embarrassing display of a lack of effort and toughness. Lee took it to us in transition and on the glass, outrebounding us 41-25. We only had four second-half rebounds, and that lack of effort is unacceptable."

The hosts opened up an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and doubled up the 'Canes 36-18 by halftime. The Hoosac offense never got on track in the second half either, scoring just 15 points after the break. Jake LePrevost scored a game-high 17 points for Lee, which also had Heamon Williams (14 points) and Zac Kelley (13 points) score in double figures.

Junior forward Andrew Milesi led the Hurricanes with an eight-point, four-rebound night. Hoosac will try to rebound on Thursday night, when they play at Mount Greylock at 7 p.m.
