ADAMS, Mass — On Monday, the Hoosac Valley boys' basketball team helped ease the pain of disappointing season by earning a big home win over rival Drury. On Wednesday, the Hurricanes returned the favor to Wahconah.

The Warriors, who had just one win coming into the final game of the year, held Hoosac to just five first-half points on their way to a 48-38 win at Adams Memorial School. Wahconah (2-18) led just 6-5 after the first quarter but held the Hurricanes (3-17) scoreless in the second, outscoring the hosts 11-0 in the quarter to take a 17-5 lead at the half.

Overall, Bill Robinson's squad shot 2 of 27 from the field in the first half and just 14 of 69 for the entire game. Throw in a 6 of 19 performance from the free-throw line, and Hoosac didn't stand much of a chance against the Warriors' tough zone defense.

"We just couldn't score," Robinson said. "Let's take nothing away from Wahconah. They wanted it more, but we struggled. The one bright spot was [senior] Justin Duval, who snagged 17 rebounds playing in his last game."

"We did make a comeback and cut the lead to six points heading into the fourth quarter. We had the lead down to four a few times, but we had two baskets taken away, one for a charge and the other one I'm still not sure what happened."

Despite a brutal first half, the 'Canes came back to score 17 points in the third quarter, more than tripling their scoring output in the first half. Sophomore forward Trevor Alibozek scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, but Hoosac was unable to overcome the Warriors' six-point lead in the fourth quarter. Alibozek also added eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Sean Ryan-Kut sank three triples on his way to a 13-point night.

Anthony Delmolino scored a game-high 21 points to lead Wahconah, which also received nine points from Marco Anastasio.
