Mestre Leads Taconic Boys to Win in Opener

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Izaiya Mestre scored 24 points, and Deonte Sandifer added 15 to lead the Taconic boys basketball team to a 69-44 win over Mount Greylock in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
 
Sandifer scored nine in a decisive 26-9 third quarter that allowed Taconic (1-0) to break open a game it led by two points, 23-21, at half-time.
 
Devon Walker scored eight, and Drew DeMartino added six in the win.
 
Mount Greylock (0-1) was led by Sean McCormack with 22. Toby Foehl and Cole Wojtkowski scored seven and six, respectively.
 
Mount Greylock hosts Easthampton on Monday. Taconic hosts Northampton on Wednesday.
