PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Over the past 20 years, the Pittsfield Hoop Club Hall of Fame has recognized more than 150 former basketball players, coaches, referees, and contributors from the city of Pittsfield.

In addition to recognizing our past, the Hoop Club also invests in our future – annually awarding thousands of dollars in college scholarships to graduating seniors from our city’s high schools. Since 1996, more than $85,000 in scholarships have been awarded to student-athletes from Pittsfield.

The Pittsfield Hoop Club proudly announces its Class of 2018 scholarship recipients – which includes one student from Taconic High School and one student from Pittsfield High School.  Each of these students will be receiving $1,000 scholarships.

This year's winners, Taconic's Javier Osorio and Pittsfield's Edwin Rodriguez, were presented their awards last month by former Boston Celtic Chris Herren in a ceremony at Pittsfield High.

A respected team leader, Osorio served as the lone senior -- and the sparkplug -- for a Taconic team that won its first Western Mass Championship in more than 40 years and advanced all to way to the State Finals back in March.

An All-Western Mass First Team selection, Osorio is a planning to continue his academic and basketball careers at American International College in Springfield this fall.

Rodriguez is asoft-spoken, multi-sport athlete who averaged more than 14 points per game this past season, leading the Generals in scoring. Rodriguez also excelled on the football field, serving as a team captain and the leading running back for the Generals team.

An All-Western Mass First Team selection in both football and basketball, he is planning to continue his academic and football careers at Framingham State University this fall.
