It was a short "week" as the winter season got underway on Thursday evening, but this week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week made the most of it with a couple of standout performances on Friday afternoon.

At the Boys and Girls Club in Pittsfield, PHS junior Szofia Lewis wasted no time posting a qualifying time for the season-ending State Championship meet.

On the first day of competition, Lewis beat the cut time by more than two seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 1 minute, 12.54 seconds. The state qualifying time is 1:14.50.

Lewis also posted a win in the 100 butterfly, swimming a Central/Western Mass Sectional qualifying time of 1:07.84, comfortably under the mark of 1:09.00.

Lewis also swam a leg on Pittsfield's winning 200 medley relay quartet, helping the Generals earn a dual meet win over visiting Mount Anthony.

Meanwhile, across town, McCann Tech senior Brandon Vallone rolled a perfect 300 to lead the Hornets to victory on opening day of the Berkshire County League high school bowling season.

"Watching Brandon throw 12 perfect strikes to perfection was a great accomplishment for him," McCann Tech coach Rick Moon said. "It was very exciting and I know he is very proud of himself. My heart was pounding watching him hoping he would throw the perfect game.

"His hard work and devotion to the game is a true testament to a game he loves."

It was the fourth perfect game in the 14-year history of the league and the first since 2014.

Vallone also rolled a 248 in his other game on Friday to set a league record with a series score of 548. The previous record of 547 was set in 2016 by Tom Hankey.
