Defensive Stand-out: Still Working on it!

The Hurricanes get their first win of the season a hard fought 62-55 battle over Monument.  Corey Puccio had the hot hand early connecting on 3 three point field goals in the first quarter.  Sean Ryan-Kut added a three ball of his own as Hoosac jumped out to a 16-7 lead after one quarter.  Ryan-Kut added 4 more points in the second quarter as the Hurricanes went into halftime with a 27-20 lead.  Puccio came out firing again in the third quarter knocking down two more three point shots and Jesse Larabee added two more of his own three pointers as the Hurricanes opened up a 10 point lead heading into the final quarter.  As expected Monument turned up their intensity level and made a run cutting the lead to 4 points with just under two minutes to play.  But Puccio had the answer connecting on his 6th three point basket of the night in addition to making a layup.  The Hurricanes led by Larabee (2-2), Trevor Alibozek (2-2) and Matt Braman (4-4) went a perfect 8-8 from the Free Throw line in the final minute to wrap up the victory.  Puccio led all scorers with 23 points while Ryan-Kut and Larabee added 12 and 10 respectively.

Obviously we are happy to get our first win, we led the whole way and had to learn to protect the lead throughout the game.  The kids played hard and executed better tonight than we have all season.  We also shot the ball well tonight going 19-26 from the FT line and hitting 9 of 23 Three Point baskets.  We've put together three decent efforts in a row and need to continue to build on that and improve each day.  Next up the Coaches vs Cancer game on Saturday vs a good Lenox squad at MCLA.
