ADAMS, Mass — The Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team is starting to impress its neighbors to the north.

The Hurricanes picked up their third straight straight win against a North Division opponent on Thursday night, pulling away from Wahconah in the second half for a 56-51 victory at Adams Memorial School. With the win, Ron Wojcik's club improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 against North Division teams this year.

Hoosac had its hands full, however, with Warriors guard Gabby Lavinio, who scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half. The 'Canes went into halftime down 29-26 but made a commitment to the defensive end during the break. They picked up their game on both ends of the court actually, outscoring Wahconah (5-7) 30-22 in the second half.

"It was a high-scoring first half, but we did a much better job in the second half defensively," Wojcik said. "We were able to open up an 8 to 10-point lead and eventually hang on for the win."

Sophomore forward Megan Rodowicz had big game for Hoosac, hitting a pair of 3-pointers on her way to scoring a team-high 14 points. Freshman Emily Rosse collected another double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, while fellow forward Erica Mach contributed nine points and 10 boards.

Maddie Sprague added 15 points playing inside for the Warriors, while Shannon Lussier netted 12 in a losing cause.

The Hurricanes next play another North opponent on Monday night, when they travel to rival Drury for a 7:30 p.m. game.
