PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mount Everett's Deserey Conaway scored 14 points to lead the Eagles to a 40-32, come-from-behind victory over McCann Tech in the first game of the sixth annual Berkshire County Girls Basketball Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Taconic High School on Saturday morning.

The Eagles (3-6) trailed by as many as nine in the first half and by four at halftime but used a 12-4 run in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Conaway got the run started with a 3-pointer, and Brooke Morehouse capped the spurt with a trey and a putback for five of her 13 points.

One big key for Mount Everett after halftime: rebounding. The Eagles earned a 27-23 edge in that department and taking away some of the defensive boards that allowed McCann (5-6) to get its transition game going in the first half.

It was one of the few times this season the Eagles have earned an advantage on the glass.

"Right now, it's definitely our weakest point our rebounding," Mount Everett coach Scott Rote said. "In that first half, they outrebounded us 30-11. They had more second-chance opportunities than we had, and it showed. Mary [Nguyen] was hurting us; when she can get the ball in her hands and go full court with the ball, she's tough to guard."

Nguyen scored eight in the first half and finished with 14 for the game.

Rote credited Natasha Macleay and India Ward with helping to limit the damage by Nguyen.

McCann, which had won four straight coming into the game, will get another crack at the Eagles on Tuesday in Sheffield.
