NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - - Raegan Hickey scored 10 points to lead the Greenfield girls basketball team to a 49-26 win over McCann Tech Tuesday night.

Hickey scored eight of her 10 in the first half to help the Green Wave take a 24-8 lead into the locker room. For Greenfield, starting quick was the key to the game as they were playing their fourth game in five nights.

“We always try to start with some full court pressure just to try and create some easy looks to build our confidence for the rest of the game,” Greenfield coach John Hickey said. “It led to some open court opportunities that got the job done for us.”

Molley Duclos also scored 10 points, and nine players got into the scoring column for the Green Wave (10-1) as they qualified for the Western Mass tournament with Tuesday’s night win. “This is a young team and they have exceeded expectations so far,” said Hickey, “I am very proud of them and I couldn’t really ask for anything more.”

For McCann (3-7), Aimee Dowling scored 11 points and Kelly Dobbert and Alanza Quinones chipped in with five points each. Points were tough to come by for the Hornets as their leading scorers struggled to get good looks against Greenfield press.

“When Allie and Aimee are going good it opens up shots for the rest of the team,“ said McCann coach Mike Dowling, “We break the press all the time, but we had trouble today. The first couple times we broke it, we scored off of it, but it was hard for us to hold on for the entire quarter.”

McCann will host Ware Thursday and Greenfield will head home to face Pioneer Valley Thursday night.
