Taconic's Offense Steps Up Against Palmer

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Taconic girls' basketball team put in its most complete effort of the season so far, getting double-digit scoring from three different players on its way to a 49-40 win over Palmer in the opening round of the Hoosac Valley Holiday Tourney on Friday night. 

The Braves (1-2) picked up their first win of the season thanks to a 17-6 run in the second quarter that gave Matt Mickle's team a 15-point lead at halftime. Sophomore guard Shea Hassett led the way on the offensive end, scoring a team-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds. Junior Kirsten McNeice also added 10 points and five assists, while classmate Angela O'Neil sank of pair of 3-pointers on her way to a 10-point evening. 

Taconic also got a good effort on the boards. Junior Nyanna Slaughter collected 11 rebounds to go with eight points, while  sophomore Brianna Rogers pulled down 10 boards to go with five points. 

The Panthers (4-3) were led by Alyssa Darling, who hit three long-range shots on her way to a game-high 16 points. 

The Braves now advance to Saturday night's final against host Hoosac Valley at 7:30 p.m.
