Young Leads Granby Girls Past Monument Mountain

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Granby's Nora Young scored 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Saturday to lead the Rams to a 49-31 win over Monument Mountain at the Coaches Vs. Cancer Showcase.
 
It was a two-point game at half-time, but Granby opened that margin to 13 points by the end of the third quarter.
 
Young started an 8-0 run to end the quarter by setting up Kristen Trembley for a bucket.
 
The next time down, Young scored in the post to make it 30-21.
 
After the teams traded empty trips, Young got to the line and sank both to push the margin to 11. Kayla McCreary then capped the run with a basket to give Granby a 34-21 lead going to the fourth quarter.
 
In the fourth, Young continued to pour it on, drawing a foul in the post and converting both her foul shots to start a 7-2 spurt that opened the lead to 41-25 at the midway point.
 
Young had an assist and three offensive rebounds during that stretch.
 
Rhiana Louw led Monument Mountain with nine points.Abby Dohoney added seven.
 
Abby Wade and Maya Cooney each had seven rebounds in the loss.
 
The Spartans (2-8) will look to snap a five-game skid on Monday when they travel to Taconic.
