PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Taconic girls basketball team was defeated by crosstown rival Pittsfield Friday evening, 59-35.

Taconic senior Shay Conyers started the game guarding Pittsfield's Peyton Steinman, who finished with 19 points. Conyers limited her to seven in the first quarter.

A few defensive miscommunications led to Steinman hitting a couple of 3-pointers to increase the Generals' lead in the second quarter. Pittsfield outsored Taconic, 21-7, in the second quarter to take a 35-12 lead.

"That really steamrolled things, there was two of them in a row," Taconic coach Matt Mickle said. "We did a decent job on her early, but we had two defensive breakdowns and for some reason that snowballed into us playing hesitant."

Pittsfield came out in the second half and continued to push the ball up the court. Defensively they were reading Taconic's passing well, creating turnovers and putting a stop to Taconic's offensive game.

The Generals were able to hold onto to their lead throughout the remainder of the game to take away the win.

"We talked about playing with more confidence," Mickle said. "We played very hesitant in the first half, I thought we had a good game plan, but we were too hesitant and we didn't go at them like I though we would."

Lauren Carnevale finished with 17 points and Trinity Cookis had 13 for Pittsfield. For Taconic, Maddy Quinto, Brianna Rodgers, and Jasmine Rodriguez had eight.
