WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Jenna Benzinger had a huge night, scoring 24 points as the Mount Greylock girls basketball team defeated Mount Everett, 58-45, Tuesday night.

Benzinger was all over the court making plays both offensively and defensively.

Senior Ari Walden scored 11, while Maddie Albert and Sarah Stripp added seven each.

It was a special day for Mount Greylock (13-7), not only the celebration of three seniors on Senior Night, but also a win that clinched the Southern Division title.

Mt Greylock came out firing as they started the game strong. They were able to control the tempo of the game, ending the first quarter with a 14-4 lead. Jenna was a force on the boards all game long as well as blocking shots and scoring.

“Jenna had been playing well, the last three games she’s had 31, 22 and 24 point games and that’s not only attributed to Jenna, but how we have been moving the ball and getting it inside to her," Mount Greylock coach John Jacobbe said.

For Mount Everett (16-4), Gwendolyn Carpenter poured in 22 points and Madison Ullrich had six.

It was the Eagles’ first loss in 10 games.

After the strong start of the game for Mount Greylock, they never really looked back as the continued to break pressure put on by Mount Everett. The Mounties took a 30-15 lead into the break and were able to coast the rest of the way. Although the shots weren’t falling, you have to tip your cap to Mount Everett for not giving up and continuing to play till the last buzzer. These two teams met earlier in the year resulting in a Mount Everett win, but with the league title on the line, the Mounties came up big.

With the South championship under its belt, Mount Greylock will look to build on this win going into the post season.

“As a coach my goal is to win game one, win 10 games, and win the division, Then win a tourney game,” Jacobbe said. “We are 13-7. We’ve had a nice year, and we will see what happens with the seeding.”

Both of these team will await the seedings on Saturday to see where and who they will play to open the tourney.
