WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Pittsfield girls basketball team cruised to an easy win over Mount Greylock, 67-20, Friday night on the road.

Alexis Garvey led all scorers with 16 points, while Mary Hines had 14 and Emery Sime pitched in with 12.

It was all Pittsfield (4-3) early on in this game setting the tone right out the gates. The Generals started the game off on an 11-0 run shutting Mount Greylock down completely. The high press defense of Pittsfield combined with a well played zone held Mount Greylock scoreless for most of the first quarter. Mount Greylock was unable to connect on any 3s, and when they tried the inside game, Garvey was waiting along with the rest of the Pittsfield defense. Pittsfield eventually finished  the quarter up 12-2.

“When Alexis is patient she plays real well defensively in the back of that zone,” Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot said. "We have been working on that so it was nice to see that today”

Of course he’s talking about the 16 rebounds and five blocks Alexis had in the game really shutting down the paint and getting the fast break going. This is such an important piece for Pittsfield if they are going to continue to win games. Mount Greylock had trouble getting back on defense as the Generals instantly looked to go the other way after missed shots and steals.

Pittsfield held the Mounties to just four points in the first half really putting this game to bed early. With such a lopsided score it would have been easy for Pittsfield to lose focus, but the Generals stuck with the gameplan and continued to make the most out of each possession they had.

“We like to push the ball because we are limited size wise in the starting unit, so we need everyone to crash the boards and I think we did that well to get our offense going.” Racicot said.

Mount Greylock didn’t give up either as they posted their best point total of the game scoring 10 points. It wasn’t enough and Mount Greylock will look to regroup Monday against Hoosac Valley on the road.

After three road games for Pittsfield, will host next Monday against Lenox.
