Rosse Explodes for 42 in HV's Win over Everett

SHEFFIELD, Mass — Simply stated, Emily Rosse's game against Mount Everett on Tuesday night was the No. 1 all-time performance Ron Wojcik has seen coaching either boys or girls.

And this is coming from the Hoosac Valley girls' basketball coach, the same man who coached a number of great players while guiding the Pittsfield boys, including Berkshire County's all-time leading scorer Sedale Jones.

That's what happens when you make 17 baskets, sink eight free throws, pull down 22 rebounds and score a career-high 42 points in a 67-30 win over Mount Everett. Those were the numbers put up by Rosse, who increased her season scoring average by just under two points with her 42-point outburst. In the past two games alone, Rosse has combined to score 66 points and grab 44 boards.

"It was just an unbelievable game for Emily," Wojcik said. "She follows a 24-point, 22-rebound game against Monument Mountain with a 42-point, 22-rebound game Tuesday night. It was a huge effort with a number of our players either sick or injured."

After a first quarter that saw the Eagles (9-7) start off with a 13-11 lead, Rosse and the rest of her Hurricane teammates really took off in the second frame. Rosse found herself at the front of Hoosac's full-court press and with a number of easy scoring opportunities. She turned those good looks at the basket into 19 points, as the 'Canes (11-5) outscored Everett 24-2 in the quarter to open up a 35-15 lead at the half. Hoosac then put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the hosts 17-3 in the final eight minutes of the game.

Freshman guard Amber Lesure chipped in with two 3-pointers and 10 points, while classmate McKenzie Robinson added four points, six rebounds and a team-high nine assists. Deseraye Conaway and Tara Sullivan each scored nine points to lead the Eagles.

The Hurricanes return to action on Friday night with a home game against St. Joe's at 6:30 p.m.
