CHESHIRE, Mass. — Fallon Field scored a game —high 13 points to lead the Hoosac Valley Hurricanes to a 55-40 win over Drury on Senior Night.

Despite fighting foul trouble for most of the night, Field scored five of her 13 points in the second quarter to help open up a nine-point lead heading into the locker room. Unfortunately, Field picked up her fourth foul with 4 minutes, 14 seconds  to play in the third, creating an opportunity for Drury to make a run.

“I thought our defense was good at that point,” Hoosac head coach Ron Wojcik said. “I told the kids let’s try and get some transition baskets. I thought we did a good job with [Fallon] out defensively. We were able to generate just enough till we could get her back in. I talked to her with six minutes left to play. She said she could play with four.”

For Hoosac (17-5), Madi Ryan added 11 points and Lexi Mercier and Kailynne Frederick each chipped in with eight points each for the Hurricanes, who clinched a share of the Berkshire County North title with the win.

For Drury (14-6), Katlyn Toomey scored 17 points and Molly Moulton chipped in with 15 points. It was just their second loss in their last 12 games.

Drury jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game, but the Hurricanes crawled back to tie the score at 11 after one quarter of play. The second quarter ended up being the difference in the game, as Hoosac outscored the Blue Devils, 17-8, to take a 28-19 lead at halftime.

“We played them pretty well for three quarters, and that second quarter just did it for us. We have to learn how to play four consistent quarters.” Drury head coach Brain Flagg said. “Against a team like that, you have to play four full quarters of basketball. But this was great preparation, and was a good game for us to get ready.”

Drury cut the lead to seven points (38-31) after Moulton knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer heading into the fourth quarter. With Field still on the bench early in the fourth, Moulton stole the ball and found Katlyn Toomey under the hoop to cut into the Hoosac lead with 6:45 to play. But Skyler Case answered with a big 3 in transition to put the Hurricanes back up by 11. Alie Mendal chipped in with six second-half points providing just enough offense, and more importantly time, for Field to come back in. Field went on to score six points in the fourth to help secure the win.

Both teams have finished their regular season play and will be anticipating the post-season seeds that will be announced on Saturday.
