McAlister Edges McNinch in Rhode Island

WARWICK, R.I. -- Monument Mountain's Ace McAlister and Lenox's Tucker McNinch took their rivalry on the road on Saturday as the Spartan and Millionaire competed at the 32nd Brown Invitational at Goddard Park.
 
McAlister got the better of things this time around, clocking a time of 15 minutes, 28 seconds on the 5-kilometer course to finish seventh overall in the championship division race.
 
McNinch was hot on McAlister's heels, finishing ninth in 15:33 and helping Lenox finish fourth in the team standings.
 
Marco Pompilj of New York City's Collegiate School was the top finisher in 14:56.
 
New York's St. Anthony's won the team title with 39 points. Lenox's boys finished fourth with top-25 finishes from Ben Herrick and Philippe Mortellitti.
 
McAlister ran as an individual. Mount Greylock's Will Nolan and Carter Stripp also ran as individuals, finishing 40th and 62nd, respectively, in the 97-runner field.
 
The Lenox girls finished fifth in the team competition in the championship division.
 
Lenox sophomore Emma Jourdain finished 12th in a time of 18:46 in a race won by Exeter, N.H.'s, Shannon Murdock (17:53), a senior who will run for the University of New Hampshire in the fall.
 
Freshman Alice Najimy backed up Jourdain with a 16th place finish for the Millionaires.
 
Monument Mountain's girls ran in the division one race at the event, along with Taconic, Wahconah and Lee.
 
The Spartans finished 14th in a 22-team field behind a 37th-place finish by Meryl Phair (20:55).
 
Taconic's Karli Manship (22:38) led her team to an 18th-place finish. Wahconah was 19th behind Kat Bruce (22:39) in 95th place. Lee's girls finished 22nd; eighth grader Ava Martin (22:07) was 71st for the Wildcats.
 
In the division one boys race, Wahconah finished fourth out of 23 teams. Senior Eric Klem (16:27) finished ninth, and classmate Ryan McMahon was 18th.
 
Taconic's Matt Rabasco (16:30) was 11th in the D1 race to lead his team to a 15th-place showing.
 
Pittsfield's boys finished ninth in D1; Brendan Leary (17:05) and Thomas Lee finished less than a second apart in 24th and 25th, respectively, for the Generals.
