WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Despite a constant downpour all game long, nothing could rain on the McCann Tech girls' soccer team's 2-0 win over Westfield Vocational on Tuesday.

Junior forward Alexa Durant scored for the third time in three games, taking a pass from classmate Mary Nguyen and giving the Hornets (6-3-1) a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the game. Nguyen then got a goal of her own 12 minutes later, and that's all Mike Dowling's club would need on a rain-soaked field that didn't allow a single kick to travel more than five yards.

McCann sweeps the season series with the Tigers with the win and improves its Tri-County League record to an impressive 6-0-1 in the process.

The Hornets held a 19-10 edge in shots, forcing Westfield keeper Marsha Iglesias into making 14 saves in the game. Senior Becky Daniels stopped eight shots in the McCann net before she was relieved by sophomore Alex Wood, who finished with two saves.

The Hornets next host Commerce at 4 p.m. on Friday.
