Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) has again wheeled out the Try Transit initiative, offering free bus and complementary ADA paratransit services until Dec. 31.
At the October 26, 2023 meeting, the BRTA Advisory Board voted to proceed with a public comment period to gather customer feedback on the proposed additional service.
This was just below BRTA's goal of 55,000 riders but Administrator Robert Malnati is still happy with the result, as it allowed more people to use the transit authority’s services or discover them for the first time.
The Baker-Polito Administration announced a total of $1.9 million for municipalities, Councils on Aging, Regional Transit Authorities, and nonprofit organizations under the Community Transit Grant Program administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The state grant was awarded to all 15 Commonwealth regional transit authorities who worked together to submit a joint application and implementation plan.
