Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter School launches website12:00AM / Friday, October 24, 2003
The Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter School (BArT) has launched a new website at www.bartcharter.org .
The site contains information about BArT's innovate school program, how parents can enroll their child, employment opportunities, and ways the community can get involved in making BArT a success. Visitors to the website can sign up to get more information about the school and receive BArT's e-newsletter.
BArT's website is the first step in creating a new model of public school that integrates technology throughout. This website is fundamental to BArT's vision of creating a Web-based learning environment that serves all members of the school community. Students will create digital portfolios to showcase their learning, and in the process develop critical technology skills for the 21st century workforce. Teachers will use the website to share new curriculum and instruction ideas with colleagues in other local schools and around the world. Parents will be able to find out what their students are working on at any given time, and discover how their children are performing.
An entire section of the website is devoted to BArT's education program, and explains how the arts and technology will be integrated into a college preparatory curriculum. There is also a page of frequently asked questions about BArT, including how charter schools are started, why Northern Berkshire County needs a charter school, what makes BArT different from other public schools, and how charter schools are accountable.
The website contains a section specifically on how to get involved with BArT. In addition to volunteering and direct contributions, there is a wish list posted of goods and services people can donate to help the school prepare to open next fall. BArT's new website design was donated by Orbit Visual Communication, and the school's logo was created by Folia Graphics. Kristina Wyatt, BArT's Technology Coordinator, oversaw the production of the website and has been teaching Principal Simeon Stolzberg how to work on the site. BArT's staff will be expected to learn the same technology skills that students are expected to master, and demonstrate that everyone is a learner.
