The Victorian Society of America has honored The Mount, Edith Wharton's estate and gardens in Lenox, with the highest preservation award at its 38th annual meeting and conference.
The May 1 meeting applauded The Mount with meritorious preservation and restoration of the estate, which cost $9.5 million.
The restoration process began in 1997. During her residence at The Mount, Wharton wrote six novels, including two of her most famous works as well as three non-fiction books and numerous short stories.
