Bea Arthur
Bea Arthur will bring her show Just Between Friends to The Egg on Saturday, July 23rd at 8 PM.

Bea Arthur is well known for her roles as Maude Findlay from television's Maude and Dorothy Zbornak from The Golden Girls. She also appeared in the original productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Mame. Featuring Billy Goldenberg at the piano, Bea Arthur - Just Between Friends is a cosy evening at the theatre with an old friend who has led a wildly entertaining life and who tells wonderfully poignant and funny stories and occasionally breaks out in song.

Bea Arthur broke onto the American theater scene in 1954 when she performed in a high-profile production of The Three-Penny Opera. A talented singer, Ms. Arthur followed up her professional stage debut with a part in the successful off-Broadway musical The Shoestring Revue.

On Broadway, Ms. Arthur originated the role of Yente the matchmaker in the critically acclaimed musical Fiddler on the Roof, then performed opposite Angela Lansbury in Mame. Ms. Arthur won a 1966 Tony for Mame and went on to reprise her role in the movie version opposite Lucille Ball.

Ms. Arthur appeared in the Oscar-nominated Lovers and Other Strangers and in Mel Brooks' History of the World Part I. She also starred in several made-for-television films, including My First Love with Richard Kiley.

Famed producer Norman Lear took note of Ms. Arthur's commanding performances and cast her as Edith Bunker's cousin, Maude, in the hit television series All in the Family. Her character was so intriguing that she got her own series, Maude and in 1977 Ms. Arthur won an Emmy Award for best actress in a comedy series for the role. Next, Ms. Arthur joined the cast of The Golden Girls as Dorothy, whom she played from 1985 to 1992. The role earned her a second Emmy in 1988.

After years of outstanding work on television, Ms. Arthur returned to Broadway and appeared in Woody Allen's The Floating Lightbulb. She has also appeared onstage in Los Angeles, in Anne Meara's Afterplay and in the comedy Bermuda Avenue Triangle. Ms. Arthur also won the Comedy Ace Award for her performance in the popular series Malcolm in the Middle.

Ms. Arthur has been performing her Just Between Friends show since 2001 in theatres across the nation, including a run on Broadway.

Tickets to Bea Arthur – Just Between Friends are $34.50 and $29.50 (seniors) and are available at The Egg Box Office – 518-473-1845 – and all Ticketmaster locations.

Dickey Betts & Commander Cody At The Egg

The Egg will present two classic rock bands – Dickey Betts & Great Southern and The Commander Cody Band – in concert on Friday, July 15th at 8 PM.

Dickey Betts

Dickey Betts helped define the southern rock guitar sound and jam band performance style as a member of the Allman Brothers Band, and composed and sang many of the bands classic songs including “Ramblin’ Man” and “Blue Sky.” The Commander Cody Band plays a set of their signature rock and swing tunes – “Hot Rod Lincoln”, “Smoke That Cigarette,” “Lost in the Ozone,” and “Seeds and Stems” – to open the show.

Dickey Betts joined the Allman Brothers Band as second lead guitarist and singer in the late '60s. In addition to matching bandleader Duane Allman lick for lick, Mr. Betts also wrote such memorable songs as "Revival” and the instrumental tours de force "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and “Jessica.” After Duane Allman was killed in a road accident in 1971, Mr. Betts and Gregg Allman shared leadership of the band, with Mr. Betts writing and singing the group's biggest hits, "Ramblin' Man" and “Blue Sky.”

Members of the band began solo careers in 1973, and Mr. Betts released his first solo album Highway Call, in 1974. He participated in several Allman Brothers Band reunion tours before forming Great Southern and leading that band on recordings and tours across the country.

The Commander Cody Band
George Frayne AKA Commander Cody formed the Lost Planet Airmen in the late 1960s and played as the house band for Linda Ronstadt, Doug Kershaw, Gene Vincent and Emmylou Harris. Soon they began headlining clubs and were signed to a recording contract, and brought the sound of Western Swing to rock audiences around the world.

Now called the Commander Cody Band, the group has released two dozen albums and continues to tour across the country. The band’s current line-up features Mark Emerick on guitar, Rick Mullen on bass and Steve Barbuto on drums.

Tickets are $24 and are available at The Egg Box Office – 518-473-1845 – and all Ticketmaster locations. The concert is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.

The Fab Faux at The Egg

The Fab Faux will perform a tribute to the timeless music of The Beatles at The Egg on Sunday, July 10th at 7:30 PM.

The Fab Faux is an ensemble of some of today’s most highly regarded musicians, specializing in performing the music of The Beatles later period. While the band does not try to dress, act or look like the members of The Beatles, they have been hailed for their complete part-perfect renditions of complex songs such as "Strawberry Fields Forever", "I Am the Walrus", and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite” as well as such harmony-driven songs as "Because", "Nowhere Man", and "Paperback Writer", reproduced not only note-for-note, but with extra vocalists available to achieve a double-tracked effect.

The Fab Faux

The Fab Faux boasts the high visibility of TV star/musicians Will Lee from The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Vivino from Late Night with Conan O'Brien along with Rich Pagano, Frank Agnello, and Jack Petruzzelli. The core group is accompanied by the Hogshead Horns and Crème Tangerine Strings.

The band has created a buzz among Beatles fans in the New York City area; packing The Bowery Ballroom, Irving Plaza, The Bottom Line, and The China Club and was featured in a full-length profile on CNN that was broadcast all over the world on several of that network's programs. They participated in a CD of original material by Beatles tribute bands, recorded in London at Abbey Road Studios and since August 1999, the group has performed multiple times in Liverpool, England, where they play three shows each year for that city's annual Beatle Week festivities, including outdoor concerts for over 35,000 people on the Apple-sponsored Yellow Submarine and Let It Be stages.

Tickets for the Fab Faux are $27.50 and are available at The Egg Box Office – 518-473-1845 – and all Ticketmaster locations. The concert is presented in cooperation with WAMC Northeast Public Radio and is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.
