Dickey Betts & Commander Cody At The Egg
The Egg will present two classic rock bands – Dickey Betts & Great Southern and The Commander Cody Band – in concert on Friday, July 15th at 8 PM.
Dickey Betts helped define the southern rock guitar sound and jam band performance style as a member of the Allman Brothers Band, and composed and sang many of the bands classic songs including “Ramblin’ Man†and “Blue Sky.†The Commander Cody Band plays a set of their signature rock and swing tunes – “Hot Rod Lincolnâ€, “Smoke That Cigarette,†“Lost in the Ozone,†and “Seeds and Stems†– to open the show.
Dickey Betts joined the Allman Brothers Band as second lead guitarist and singer in the late '60s. In addition to matching bandleader Duane Allman lick for lick, Mr. Betts also wrote such memorable songs as "Revival†and the instrumental tours de force "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and “Jessica.†After Duane Allman was killed in a road accident in 1971, Mr. Betts and Gregg Allman shared leadership of the band, with Mr. Betts writing and singing the group's biggest hits, "Ramblin' Man" and “Blue Sky.â€
Members of the band began solo careers in 1973, and Mr. Betts released his first solo album Highway Call, in 1974. He participated in several Allman Brothers Band reunion tours before forming Great Southern and leading that band on recordings and tours across the country.
George Frayne AKA Commander Cody formed the Lost Planet Airmen in the late 1960s and played as the house band for Linda Ronstadt, Doug Kershaw, Gene Vincent and Emmylou Harris. Soon they began headlining clubs and were signed to a recording contract, and brought the sound of Western Swing to rock audiences around the world.
Now called the Commander Cody Band, the group has released two dozen albums and continues to tour across the country. The band’s current line-up features Mark Emerick on guitar, Rick Mullen on bass and Steve Barbuto on drums.
Tickets are $24 and are available at The Egg Box Office – 518-473-1845 – and all Ticketmaster locations. The concert is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant
Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building.
"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu.
A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building.
White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.
He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns.
Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot.
A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
